With the increasing demand for intelligent and space-optimized new energy vehicles, traditional upright shift levers are gradually being replaced by newer shift mechanisms, such as hand-shift, rotary knob, and paddle shift. Over 70% of recently released electric vehicles feature non-traditional shift lever designs.
Hand-shift shift levers are integrated behind the steering wheel, saving center console space and facilitating wireless charging and storage areas. Rotary knobs utilize a delicate metal knob for shifting, creating a high-tech feel. A designer from a car company stated, "Future shift levers will prioritize integration with the overall vehicle interior style, achieving a balance between 'invisibility' and 'ceremonial'."

While the new design improves space utilization, some users report requiring adaptation to operating habits. The industry recommends strengthening user guidance and error prevention mechanisms while promoting new designs to ensure both safety and convenience.
